A "country of geniuses in the data center" within "one or two years, maybe less" (Sep 2026)
“The trajectory only needs to continue for a tiny period longer, one or two years, maybe less, to reach what I've called a country of geniuses in the data center.”
Context: Dario Amodei briefing the UN Security Council (10228th meeting, 23 Sep 2026), from the UN's published meeting transcript. In "Machines of Loving Grace" (2024) he described a "country of geniuses in a datacenter" as many copies of a model smarter than a Nobel Prize winner across most fields, able to work autonomously on long tasks.
How we judge it
Our interpretation: correct if by 23 Sep 2028 independent evaluators (not only Anthropic) judge that AI systems meet Amodei's own description: models smarter than top human experts across most fields, able to work autonomously on tasks lasting days or weeks, and run as many parallel copies.
