OpenAI will have a "cool demo" of its humanoid robot in 2027

“I think we'll have a cool demo in 2027, like a great demo. I don't think that there will be like robots walking the streets for a few years longer, but we'll have something impressive.”

Context: Sam Altman in Fortune's "Titans and Disruptors" interview with editor-in-chief Alyson Shontell, published on Fortune's official YouTube channel on 12 Sep 2026 (the recording date is not given). Asked whether the humanoid robot OpenAI had recently confirmed it is building would come in 2027 or whether "the brain" needed more work first, Altman answered "No, I think we'll have a cool demo in 2027 …". On the Sources podcast he also said OpenAI will build a humanoid ("We will"), per Engadget. The remark was widely reported on 17-19 Oct 2026. A different statement from his June 2025 blog prediction that "2027 may see the arrival of robots that can do tasks in the real world" (claim altman-2027-robots). How we judge it

Our interpretation: kept if by 31 Dec 2027 OpenAI publicly demonstrates (in a published video, a live event or a press demonstration) a humanoid robot that OpenAI itself built or co-developed performing physical tasks, as shown by OpenAI or credible reporting; broken if no public demonstration of an OpenAI humanoid robot takes place by that date. Whether the demo is "cool" or "impressive" is not graded; a robot from a partner company that merely runs OpenAI models, or a non-humanoid robot, does not count.

Resolution criteria are our interpretation of the claim, written before grading. Methodology
