Thinking Machines Lab to release full Inkling 2 Small weights under Apache 2.0 the week after 5 Nov 2026
“We intend to make the full weights available under an Apache 2.0 license next week after the completion of external safety testing and red-teaming.”
Context: From Thinking Machines Lab's official 5 Nov 2026 post introducing Inkling 2 Small (594B MoE, 17B active). The model launched closed-weights on Tinker; the lab says full weights will ship under Apache 2.0 after external safety testing and red-teaming. "Next week" after Thursday 5 Nov 2026 is read as by the end of the following calendar week (15 Nov 2026). The lab's X account (@thinkymachines) the same day said only "full weight release planned soon" (softer); the blog wording is the gradeable commitment. How we judge it
Our interpretation: kept if by the end of 15 Nov 2026 (any time zone) Thinking Machines Lab makes the full Inkling 2 Small model weights publicly downloadable (for example on Hugging Face, GitHub or an equivalent public host) under an Apache 2.0 licence (or a licence that is Apache-2.0-compatible and named as such by the lab), as shown by the official repo/card. App/API-only access on Tinker, partner-only weights, a smaller distilled variant alone, or a community re-upload do not count. Partly if public weights appear after 15 Nov but by 29 Nov 2026, or if only a partial shard set insufficient to run the full model is published by 15 Nov. Broken if no qualifying public full-weight release by 29 Nov 2026. No deadline was given beyond "next week"; the 15 Nov 2026 horizon is our reading of that phrase from a 5 Nov announcement.
