AI will "beat all fields" by the end of 2027, or 2028 "at the latest"
“Your prediction was conservative. AI will beat all fields by the end of next year or maybe 2028, at the latest.”
Context: Elon Musk replying on X on 22 Sep 2026 to François Chollet, who had re-shared his May 2021 post "Within 10-20 years, nearly every branch of science will be, for all intents and purposes, a branch of computer science" and said the prediction was "looking obvious by the day now". "Next year" is 2027. India Today and the Free Press Journal (both 23 Sep 2026) quote the second sentence verbatim; Digit reported it the same day. This is a later restatement with a new horizon of his Davos forecast (musk-smarter-than-any-human-2027: smarter than any human by end-2026, "no later than" 2027), here worded as AI beating every field.
How we judge it
Our interpretation: correct if by 31 Dec 2028 AI systems are broadly recognized by independent experts as outperforming the best human experts in essentially every field (science, mathematics, engineering and other intellectual and professional disciplines); a developer's own claim does not count on its own. Reaching this by end-2027 also counts as correct. Wrong if not by 31 Dec 2028. Same bar as musk-smarter-than-any-human-2027.
