Unsupervised long-haul driverless trucking on the Dallas–Houston I-45 lane by the end of 2026 (IKEA launch partner)
“Kodiak AI, Inc. ("Kodiak") (Nasdaq: KDK), a leading provider of Physical AI-powered autonomous driving technology, today announced its plans to launch unsupervised long-haul driverless service on the Dallas-Houston freight lane by the end of 2026.”
Context: Kodiak AI press release of 25 Sep 2026 naming Dallas–Houston as its first long-haul driverless launch lane. CEO Don Burnette said the company is "on track to complete our preparations and launch driverless highway service by the end of this year." A 29 Sep post named IKEA as the launch shipper partner "later in 2026" on a 219-mile I-45 leg. On 6 Oct Kodiak said its Autonomy Readiness Measure had reached 96% and reaffirmed a year-end launch. Fox Business (3 Oct) quoted Burnette: "We're gonna get that first one out by the end of the year." FreightWaves (29 Sep) reported the same year-end/IKEA plan.
How we judge it
Our interpretation: kept if by 31 Dec 2026 Kodiak (or credible reporting) confirms at least one commercial unsupervised long-haul run on a public highway corridor between the Dallas–Fort Worth and Houston areas with nobody in the cab (IKEA or another shipper); partly if unsupervised long-haul public-highway service has begun elsewhere in Texas but not on the Dallas–Houston lane, or only closed-course/industrial (non-interstate) runs are added; broken if no unsupervised public-highway long-haul commercial service has begun by 31 Dec 2026. Permian Basin industrial driverless operations already underway do not count for kept.
