Generative AI will reduce Amazon's total corporate workforce "in the next few years"
“It’s hard to know exactly where this nets out over time, but in the next few years, we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains from using AI extensively across the company.”
Context: CEO Andy Jassy's memo to employees on generative AI (June 2025).
How we judge it
Our interpretation: Amazon's corporate (non-warehouse) headcount falls within about three years (by mid-2028), with AI cited as a driver.

Evidence & grader’s note
- Amazon (Beth Galetti): "an overall reduction in our corporate workforce of approximately 14,000 roles" (Oct 28, 2025)
- GeekWire: Jassy says the cuts were "not really financially driven, and it's not even really AI-driven — not right now, at least" (Oct 2025)
Amazon announced about 14,000 corporate role cuts on 28 Oct 2025, but two days later Andy Jassy said they were "not even really AI-driven — not right now, at least" and "Really, it's culture." Since the criteria require AI to be cited as a driver and the deadline is mid-2028, the claim stays open.
