Tesla selling Optimus humanoid robots to the public by the end of 2027
“By the end of next year, I think we'd be selling humanoid robots to the public.”
Context: Elon Musk in conversation with Larry Fink at the World Economic Forum in Davos, 22 Jan 2026 (Rev transcript). He added that this would be "when we are confident that it's very high reliability, very high safety, and the range of functionality is also very high". CBS News reported the remark the same day.
How we judge it
Our interpretation: correct if by 31 Dec 2027 Tesla is selling Optimus robots to ordinary consumers (orders open to the general public and first deliveries made); partly if by then Optimus is sold or leased only to businesses, or public orders are open without deliveries; wrong otherwise.
