OpenAI's in-house chip program to start coming online in the first half of 2027
“which will start to come online in the first half of next of 2027 and will scale a lot in future years”
Context: Sam Altman on TBPN (29 Sep 2026), asked about compute plans: "one thing that OpenAI has that doesn't get as much attention is our chip program", "which will start to come online in the first half of next of 2027 and will scale a lot in future years". Wording from the official TBPN video's auto-captions (the host interjects between the two parts; "next of 2027" is as spoken). He presented the chips as an inference-efficiency effort.
