Context: Alphabet CFO Anat Ashkenazi on Alphabet's Q3 2026 earnings call (28 Oct 2026), in the outlook section of her prepared remarks, right after saying Alphabet's full-year 2026 CapEx guidance range of $195 billion to $205 billion remains unchanged. CNBC quoted the same sentence ("We continue to expect our capex to increase significantly in 2027, and will provide further details on our Q4 call"). How we judge it
Our interpretation: kept if Alphabet's reported capital expenditures for calendar 2027 (as given in its Q4/full-year 2027 results) are at least 20% higher than its reported capital expenditures for calendar 2026 (2026 guidance at the time: $195-205 billion). Partly kept if 2027 capital expenditures are higher than 2026 but by less than 20%. Broken if they are flat or lower. The 20% line is our reading of "significantly".
