Samsung plans to start mass production of HBM4E memory in the first half of 2027
“First of all, for DRAM, while expanding sales of HBM4 based on our technology leadership, we plan to start mass production of HBM4E in the first half of next year and proceed to ramp up mass volume in the second half.”
Context: Jaejune Kim, executive vice president of Samsung Electronics' Memory Business, in the 2027 outlook on Samsung's third-quarter 2026 earnings call (29 Oct 2026, Korea time). HBM4E is the seventh generation of high-bandwidth memory used in AI accelerators; "next year" is 2027. On the same call Samsung said it had shipped the first HBM4E samples in May 2026. How we judge it
Our interpretation: kept if by 30 Jun 2027 Samsung has begun mass (volume) production of HBM4E, as shown by a Samsung announcement, earnings materials or call, or credible reporting. Samples, customer qualification or a pilot line alone do not count. Broken if mass production has not begun by 30 Jun 2027. The second-half volume ramp is not graded.
