Microsoft expects calendar-2026 capital expenditures of about $170 billion

“In Q2, we expect CapEx spend will be over $50 billion. Therefore, for the calendar year, spend should be approximately $170 billion due to the 3P capacity delays noted earlier.”

Context: Microsoft CFO Amy Hood in her outlook remarks on Microsoft's fiscal Q1 2027 earnings call (28 Oct 2026). "3P capacity delays" refers to delays at third-party GPU capacity providers, which she said pushed some capacity into the first half of 2027. Business Insider reported that this cut the calendar-2026 capex forecast from $175 billion to $170 billion; Fortune reported fiscal Q1 capex of $45.2 billion. How we judge it

Our interpretation: kept if Microsoft's reported capital expenditures including finance leases for the four quarters of calendar 2026 (fiscal Q3 and Q4 2026 and fiscal Q1 and Q2 2027) total within ±5% of $170 billion ($161.5-178.5 billion), per Microsoft's earnings materials (graded once fiscal Q2 2027 results are out, about late January 2027). Partly kept if within ±10%. Broken otherwise.
