MediaTek on track for high-volume production of its second AI accelerator (custom data-center ASIC) in Q1 2028

Context: MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai in his prepared remarks on MediaTek's third-quarter 2026 earnings call (30 Oct 2026, Taiwan time). The project is MediaTek's second-generation custom AI accelerator (ASIC) for data centers; MediaTek does not name the customer (the Taipei Times describes it as a second-generation chip for an existing customer). Answering questions about tape-out delays, Tsai said several dies had taped out and a larger die would tape out in the coming weeks, on schedule. On the same call MediaTek said it had begun initial shipments of its first AI accelerator in September and has a second ASIC customer whose project is due to contribute revenue in 2028 (not part of this claim). Our interpretation: kept if by 31 Mar 2028 MediaTek has begun high-volume (mass) production of its second AI accelerator / second-generation data-center ASIC, as shown by MediaTek's own statements (including its Q1 2028 earnings call, held after the deadline, if it reports production began in the quarter) or credible reporting. Tape-outs, samples, engineering or risk production alone do not count. Broken if high-volume production has not begun by 31 Mar 2028.
