SpaceX's AI business (xAI) to reach 10 GW of AI compute by the end of 2027
“So, we are aiming to get to 10 GW [of compute] by the end of next year.”
Context: Elon Musk in a company update to SpaceX employees, published as a video by SpaceX on X on 11 Aug 2026 ("Watch @ElonMusk deliver a company update to @SpaceX employees"); the meeting date itself was not given. Quote as transcribed by Tom's Hardware (13 Aug 2026); in the video he says "So we're aiming to get to 10 gigawatts by the end of next year" and adds "if we bring 10 gigawatts of AI online by the end of next year, it will be $300 to $500 billion a year in revenue" (also quoted by Space.com, 11 Aug 2026, and Teslarati). "Next year" is 2027. SpaceX had about 1.4 GW of nameplate AI compute capacity at the end of Q2 2026, per Space.com and Starpath; Tom's Hardware describes the sites in Memphis and Southaven as SpaceX's xAI data centers.
How we judge it
Our interpretation: kept if by 31 Dec 2027 SpaceX reports (e.g. in its quarterly results), or credible reporting or trackers such as Epoch AI confirm, at least 10 GW of AI data-center compute capacity (nameplate power, including xAI/SpaceXSI sites) online; partly if at least 5 GW but under 10 GW; broken if under 5 GW. The revenue figure is context and not graded.
